Cetara Armatore’s fine anchovies wear a robe that is inspired by one of the most fascinating aspects of life at sea: the stories told through the multitude of tattoos that cover the bodies of sailors.
The skin, burned by salt and furrowed by the wind, becomes a thin border that divides the stormy adventures lived in the infinity of the sea and the universe of sensations that is hidden within each of them.
With this project we have tried to give back the telling of their stories through evocative images that mark their skin.
We have researched and imagined these stories and told them through iconic figures who become bearers of intimate meanings but who express themselves through shared symbols.
The illustrations that cover the packaging are made by actually tattooing on synthetic leather to return a faithful result reminiscent of the makeshift means with which sailors tattooed themselves during navigation.
The tin is included in a pack inspired by Japanese self-folding boxes, while for the vases we have chosen a textured paper that refers to the tactile perception of the rough and wrinkled skin of sailors.
